The FAA has reinstated the ADS-B Rebate, but the rebates are limited and time is running out as the program ends on October 11, 2019. Are you eligible to receive it? There are several requirements that need to be met for you to receive your free $500 ADS-B Rebate. We get question all the time on the Rebate.. "how do I do it?" "Does Sparkchasers handle it?" so I hope this helps you aviators out!
11 months left till this “ADS-B” mandate is mandatory. So what should you do? There are multiple options to become ADS-B Compliant but I believe as you look to become compliant you should ask yourself some of these questions.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been training another Sparkchasers employee, Kristian Butler, so he can begin a transition from a technician in operations into a sales role. Many people would ask the question why he would ever want to do that, but that’s another discussion for another day. Kristian is outgoing with an awesome personality and he will interact well with customers, and I’m excited to have the additional help in sales.
In late July of every year pilots, aircraft owners, and aviation enthusiasts make an annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh, WI for the EAA AirVenture Airshow. It is a time to connect with old friends, see absolutely crazy air shows daily, and to see the most recent product developments for aircraft. A half of a million people come to this small Wisconsin town every year for an “everything aviation” experience and it’s something I really look forward to every year.
As I was flying back to Sparkchasers, I was looking back over my first Oshkosh experience (it will not be my last!). I learned some interesting things from sitting in seminars, talking with pilots, and just observing everything going on as well. Some of the things I heard the most about were:
In the spirit of being thankful and in the season of giving, I thought it would be a good time to share some good news. I don’t know what your flying mission is, but a great deal of my flights are long cross country flights that take me into busy airspace. My dad is in Pocahontas, AR, my brother in Evansville, IN, and my wife's family in Atlanta, GA so I have a fond appreciation for the situational awareness that having traffic and weather services in the cockpit gives me. I’ve been an XM aviation weather subscriber for years and have enjoyed Traffic Information Services Broadcasts (TIS-B) as well. The aviation world has been talking about the ADS-B mandate for the last 7 years and how the FAA is giving aircraft owners subscription free traffic and weather, if they equip their aircraft with ADS-B In capabilities.
Whoa...What a week? The FAA ADS-B rebate website now says the “Reservations Closed” but we’re still 2 years and 3+ months from the airspace mandate going into effect. From a sales perspective we booked a lot of ADS-B transponder jobs this week which is good, but it’s disappointing that so many of them were booked from Tuesday to Thursday and the owners didn’t make a reservation for their $500 rebate with the FAA. I don’t know what else Sparkchasers, the FAA, or the industry organizations could have done to promote, educate, and encourage aircraft owners to fill out the form and reserve their $500 rebate. So many of the aircraft owners that call in are focused on the “economic solution,” but many of them never even took advantage of the rebate.
Sun ‘n Fun is over. The Oshkosh Air Adventure is over. Many of the industry trade shows are also complete for 2017, but what is not over is the propaganda regarding ADS-B and the FAA 2020 Mandate. Despite the overabundance of information publically available about the subject, the mandate, and the technology some people just can’t help but make up their own facts. I decided to put together a list of the top five (5) concerning questions or comments that people make regarding ADS-B when they stop by our shop. Last week we did an FAA Safety Seminar in Goldsboro, NC on ADS-B and we discussed these questions or comments there. My sincere agenda during that seminar and with this blog is to dispel the myths and help people to understand the truths of what is going on with this FAA NextGen initiative.
